Breast Lump FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration)
Fine needle aspiration (FNA) uses a very fine caliber needle (similar to that used to draw blood with), to obtain cells from within a breast lump for examination. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and the insertion of needle is guided by ultrasound scan. It can help the diagnosis of a breast lump. Some breast lesions are cysts filled with fluid, and in this situation, the FNA can have an additional benefit of relieving the symptoms after withdrawing the fluid from the breast cysts.
